summer

spinning round and round in the afternoon's breezes
playfully touching
running so fast and so hard that you sense
the shape of the world beneath your sneakered feet
hearing your feet hit the ground hard
time after time
seeing the sky seeing the ground as you joyfully swing
stabbing feet into the air hair blown back as you fall forward then up
splashing and running through the shallow water in your suit
diving as deep as you can to sit on the bottom
reaching out to touch the slippery rocks there
the sun beats down on your pink shoulders
the hint of ice cream on your lips
in the bushes in the dark you feel her hips against yours
something raw and hard hurts deep inside your belly
an ache without a name confusing rushing emotions
a beautiful girl can make you dizzy
during the best time of year
